Spoiled Dog Designs Chosen as Le Chien Designer!
Have you even watched something with great excitement and wanted to be a part of it? Well, that’s what Le Chien has been for me. Its the Dog Fashion Show put on by Palm Springs Life Magazine that kicks off Palm Springs Fashion Week El Paseo each year and benefits the Humane Society of the Desert. I live in Palm Springs and we design and manufacture right here so it was definitely a goal of mine to be the designer for the show.
And this year, I got my wish! Spoiled Dog Designs was chosen as the designer for Le Chien 2016!
We are charged with recruiting 20-25 dogs who can wear clothes, walk a runway before a clapping, picture taking audience and be walked by one of the professional fashion models that are hired for the week. My desire is the have dogs of every breed or blend, and every size, after all, our tagline is “Function To Fashion For Dogs 2 to 200 Pounds.”
Once we have the dog models, we then have to design and make great fashions for each of them to wear! What could be more fun!
My first stop in my “Recruitment” efforts was the January AKC Dog Show in Indio, where, guided by AKC Judge Gay Dunlap, I met wonderful dogs and owner/handlers to talk to about the show. I also met some wonderful breeds that I had never met in person before.
Here’s some of the dogs that agreed to participate in this show to showcase their breeds, have a lot of fun and raise money for a good cause.
Mercedes – Ibizan Hound – Only 6 months old and already an exotic beauty, Mercedes is the first Ibizan Hound that I ever met. She’s amazing and won my heart. I have to design something every exotic and dramatic for her.
Macintosh – Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier – I have always loved Wheatens, they are smart, energetic and loving. And I fell for Macintosh in a big way. Hmmmmm, maybe something tailored and classic for him….we’ll have to see.
Tashi – Mini Bull Terrier – I knew Bull Terriers but the Mini Bull Terriers were new to me. A smaller version with lots of energy, fun loving, adorable bundle of pooch! I fell for her too…are you seeing a trend here…can you tell I love what I do?
At the show, I was given contacts that lead to two other dogs that I met the following week:
Rainey – Feathered Saluki – What a handsome dude! Then you look in his eyes and he has tons of confidence and a look that says “Been There, Done That, Nothing Bothers Me”. Wow, what presence! I’m thinking Smoking Jacket here.
Laci – Dalmation – I certainly don’t have to worry about Laci being nervous at the show, not only is she an AKC Show Dog but she models, was in a movie, she’s done it all. And she’s a beauty.
Last but far from least of the Show Dogs is by far the biggest of the group.
Vendetta – Great Dane – I had wanted a Great Dane for the show. I wanted to be able to say we had dogs from my 4 lb. Chihuahua Toni, to a Great Dane. And thanks again to Gay Dunlap, I connected with Vendetta’s Mom. Wow, its going to be such fun designing for a dog this big! I love dressing giant dogs. So much room to work with. And Vendetta is very used to wearing clothes so this will be wonderful.
So, those are the first 6 of the Dogs of Le Chien! All gorgeous and handsome, all different, and all special.
Stay tuned. My next post will be about the Roxie Connection. How a rescued Greyhound and her Dad connected me to a wonderful group of dog models and their parents.
