Loving All Animals' Fabulous Feathers and Fur Follies

In 2014 The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies announced they were closing their doors that season. It was a wonderful show that locals and tourists all loved. Then they had a sale selling off their costumes, fabrics and trims. 

Loving All Animals got the idea of doing a tribute to the Follies with Dogs and asked Spoiled Dog Designs to do the costuming.

The theme, like the Palm Springs Follies was Red, White and Blue with lots of showiness.

Turning dogs of all sizes into "Showgirls" was quite a challenge. The Follies dancers wore Las Vegas style costumes with large, heavy feathered headpieces and displays. The large dogs could wear headpieces but what about the small dogs? So we created feather displays on a leash held by the people walking the dogs. They drapped over the dogs and looked like part of their costume. It worked! It was showy, very "Follies-esque" and was comfortable for the dogs.

Our workroom was full of sequins, glitter, feathers, thread and glue for months. Fittings with the dogs was great fun. And rehearsals took time and patience. Not all of the dogs were used to walking on a stage so we rehearsed over and over again outside, then inside, then on the stage.

The crowd loved the show. They cheered and clapped for the dogs and their "walkers". 

What an evening! A spectacular celebration of dogs and a wonderful tribute to the Palm Springs Follies. And we raised money for the great work done by Loving All Animals to rescue dogs all over Southern California.
